About Explora's Directors - Gene Kam

GENE KAM, 40
Gene was in Outward Bound Singapore for eight years facilitating adventure education experiences for participants from schoolgoing age to working professionals. He has experience in knowing what makes people ‘tick’ in terms of motivation and goals. Having graduated with a BA in Professional Communication at RMIT University in Melbourne, his work experience naturally leans towards aspects of human communication and how messages and themes are transmitted - aspects that facilitators pay attention to.

Since graduation, other than in OBS, he has worked for MediaCorp Radio and the Singapore Zoo (now Wildlife Reserves Singapore) in the area of public relations. He also spent two summers at a summer camp devoted to sports activities in Pennsylvania, USA as Programme Director, developing and delivering camp programmes for children aged 15-17, as well as a camp counsellor, responsible for boys aged 10-17. His facilitation and training experience includes working with more than 8,000 clients/participants, exceeding 1,000 training days. His most recent employment was with the Raffles Institute for Experiential Learning at Raffles Institution, where as Senior Experiential Educator, he helped with the school's character development curriculum.

He is an Associate Facilitator with various consulting companies including Adventure Safety International (USA). Also, in order to keep in touch with the experiential and outdoor education industry, he joined Republic Polytechnic as an Academic Associate, where he teaches modules in the Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Learning.

He enjoys having a good meal, hanging out with friends, being out on the water in a kayak or (even better) a sailboat, suffering at triathlons and would go on a nice long trek in a country with nice views and climate at the drop of a hat.
